When Legos Attack

As I hinted at a while ago, I have found that Lego can be dangerous. Sure it’s all fun and games building and sorting and buying. But once in a while, they turn on you. I dug out this joke email I sent to some friends for your reading pleasure and feel free to make fun of me, I did. This happened sometime last fall.

Even after cleaning, the wound was surprisingly flamboyant.

Dover, NH. (AP) – Proof that Lego can hurt you by means other then stepping on.

Last night in Dover, NH the super large baseplate (64×64 stud) fell out of the closet while plaintiff Mike McIntire was kneeling putting something in the bottom ’shelf.’ The baseplate, name yet to be released, also had some Lego plates and bricks still attached. Given F=MA and the nature of the alleged attacking baseplate material versus McIntire’s face the baseplate won.

McIntire sustained a scratch above and below the eye. “I had looked up just in time to see something coming and I got my eye closed and face downish.” Says McIntire. His wife reports that “I didn’t realize that when something really hurt, or was bad, that he would not swear like his grandfather. I had no idea it looked so bad when I made fun of him as he went into the bathroom.”

After several applications of rubbing alcohol, peroxide and triple action antibiotic ointment between now and the incident and McIntire is looking like he will be ok.

Charges have been filed. Testimonies given. However since the accident occured in an area known for avalanches of the plastic kind, it is unlikely any time will be served by the defendant. Though police warned the baselplate that it should be more careful of civilians when planning it’s next base jump.
